Here's some letters found in a box in the midst of a whole bunch of stuff my mom is going to sell at a garage sale. All the stuff is from an abandoned storage locker owned by friends of our family. Emptying the storage locker, you never really know what you're going to find.
They are written to Tony from Winnetka during their high school years. The topics range from the boring Government class she is in to going to Indiana Beach after prom to quitting smoking to what they talked about during lunch. The notes are all over the place and really gave me a peek into their lives even though I have no idea who they are.
Almost every single note started with "Dear Tony, How are you? I'm just peachy." |
She found out her GPA is 1.97 and she's trying to get it up to a 2.00. |
It says, "And yes, I get flustered that you are a virgin." |
Which is weirder.. the "P.S. I suck" or the Bat Girl? |
This is the Bat Girl letter....one of the last lines says "I have my wedding dress and veil in my car." |
I've never ever heard the name Winnetka before. |
I apologize for the blurriness, but I have to keep this picture in here because if you read it you can see it's about her decision to quit smoking. |
I could not have possibly counted all the times she wrote "I love you" |
Well...there you have it. High school love letters. Not romantic like the letters Noah sent Ally in The Notebook. She cussed a lot and almost every letter said something about how she hated the class she was in. I do, however, think it is sweet that Tony kept all these letters. Personally, I would have read them and then thrown them away. Maybe they really were in love. She ended every letter with how much she loved him. I guess I'll never know. There was something kind of special being able to read these notes, even though they weren't mine. They weren't very romantic or sweet, and she spelled several words wrong.
But they were in love.
But they were in love.
Best blog post ever. This is a really great find, Megan!
ReplyDeleteDid you tell me you had a blog and I just forgot?! I can't believe I haven't read it yet! Well, now I am devouring it. I can't possibly tell you how this post delighted me. I would LOVE to find a box of letters like that.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I guffawed at "P.S. I suck" and "From Batgirl."
